Katyayani Organics
Bio/Organic Pesticides
Katyayani Bt Bio Larvicide is a biological insecticide in powder form that contains beneficial bacteria. It effectively controls a broad range of insect larvae through ingestion. Once consumed by the larvae, it disrupts their gut lining, causing internal damage and leading to a feeding stop, which ultimately results in the pest’s death.
Target Pests
Katyayani Bt Bio Larvicide is effective against various larval pests such as:
Tobacco caterpillar, corn borer, stem borer, fruit borer, pod borer, shoot borer, rice leaf roller, leaf-eating caterpillar, cotton bollworm, and cotton bridgeworm
Tea caterpillar, tea looper, pine caterpillars, and spiny moths
Pests from groups such as Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera, and Coleoptera
Target Crops
Suitable for a wide variety of crops including:
Cotton, paddy, cabbage, chickpea, okra, tomato, cauliflower, chilli, gram, pigeon pea, soybean, tobacco, castor, red gram, teak, and many others
Mode of Action
Katyayani Bt Bio Larvicide plays a vital role in pest management, especially in organic farming. It works through the following steps:
Spore Ingestion – Insect larvae ingest Bt spores along with treated plant material.
Spore Activation – The spores dissolve in the larva’s alkaline midgut, releasing protein crystals.
Protoxin Activation – The crystals are broken down by gut enzymes into active toxins (Cry toxins).
Binding to Gut Cells – These toxins bind to specific receptors in the midgut lining.
Pore Formation – The toxins form pores in the gut cell membranes.
Cell Lysis – The damage leads to cell rupture.
Larval Death – This disrupts digestion, causing starvation and death.
Application and Dosage
Method: Apply by spraying directly on the crops.
Dosage: Use 1–2 kg per acre.
Precautions
Apply 2–3 days earlier than chemical pesticides for best results on young larvae.
Ideal application temperature is above 18°C.
Evening application is preferred for maximum effectiveness.
Spraying at temperatures above 30°C yields the best results.
Repeat application every 10–15 days for continuous pest control.
